Get Ready for Winter
Staff in our GP surgeries, clinics, pharmacies and
hospitals are gearing up for winter – one of the busiest times of
the year for the NHS. On these pages we offer information and advice
on how to look after yourself and your family, including
beating the ‘flu’, the importance of hand hygiene and stopping the
spread of norovirus. There is also information about the 'Be Health-Wise This Winter' campaign, fronted by Dr Owl.
Out of Hours & Pharmacy Care
If you need medical advice out of hours (when your GP
practice is closed), we are here to help. And across Lothian, our
network of community pharmacists is ready to provide you with
medicines, information and health advice.
Right Care, Right Time,
Day or night, if you need healthcare treatment or advice,
Right Care, Right Time, Right Place
leaflet describes what
service to turn to and when.
Minor Injuries and Emergencies
Winter conditions increase the risk of injuries from
slips and falls. The Minor Injuries Clinic at the Western General
Hospital treats a wide range of injuries, including sprains and
simple fractures. From minor injuries to hospital and dental
emergency services, we are here to help.
As we head into winter, it’s good to be prepared for
emergencies that can happen at any time, such as severe weather,
floods and loss of power. The Scottish Government has a Ready
Scotland website that provides a wealth of information about
preparing for and dealing with emergencies.
