There is a core range of continence aids available for health professionals to offer, when appropriate, which is equally accessible to all NHS Lothian geographical areas. Continence aids are provided free but there are policies that limit the amount of continence aids supplied. Additionally there are specialist continence aids that will require certain criteria to be met to support their provision.

Continence aids will not be supplied before an initial continence assessment by a Registered Nurse.

Absorbent products will not be supplied for purposes other than containment of urine or faeces.

Continence aids are constantly developed by Manufacturers and change should be expected, similarly alternatives will be provided when these continence aids are discontinued or not available.

Continence aids are distributed to patients in the most cost effective and efficient sourcing options available to the NHS Lothian.
