South East Scotland Genetic Service
Western General Hospital
Crewe Road South

How to get to the Western General Hospital:

The Western General Hospital is situated between Crewe Road South and Telford Road in the Craigleith area of Edinburgh. It is only a short journey from the city centre. Click here to link to Multimap.com for a map of Edinburgh around the WGH.

This map shows the location of the Genetics on the WGH site and the main car parks:

In May 2009 the Genetic Service moved on the WGH site. Our current home is on Porterfield Road, across the car park and grassed area from our former location in the MMC and next to the main Out Patient Building:
Entry is through the blue door at the Crewe Road end.

By bus

The following Lothian buses stop on Crewe Road.

19/19a, 29/29a, 37/37a (also serves Princes St. and Waverley railway station)
38 (also serves New Royal Edinburgh Infirmary)
42 (also serves King's Buildings campus)
Most of these buses stop at the Crewe Road South entrances to the hospital, although a few stop within the hospital grounds near the Anne Ferguson building.

By car

Unfortunately, there is restricted parking in the hospital grounds so you may find it difficult to find a parking space, especially at peak times (8.45am-3pm Monday to Friday). The hospital operates a "Pay on foot" system in public parking areas, as shown on the map above. Therefore, it may be easier to get the bus or be dropped off at the hospital by car or taxi.
