Dr Alison McCallum, Director of Public Health and Health Policy, NHS Lothian said:
“As the Royal Wedding and Mayday holidays approach we’d like to remind people to think ahead as services such as GP surgeries, pharmacies and dentists will shut for four days - from Friday 29th April to Monday 2nd May inclusive.
“If you do become ill over the weekend and cannot wait until your GP re-opens, out-of-hour medical services are available through NHS 24 on 08454 242424. You can also visit our Minor Injuries Clinic at the Western General Hospital which is open 365 days a year from 8am-9pm.
“Coughs, colds and hay fever can be treated at home, and your pharmacists can advise on what you need for a well stocked medicine cabinet.
“Finally, it is important that patients who rely on prescription medication ensure that they go to their GP or pharmacist in advance of the holiday weekend.”
