Rehabilitation Medicine is a service hosted under the management of Edinburgh CHP. It revolves around predominantly in-patient services based primarily at the Astley Ainslie Hospital but also has in-patient beds at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and Liberton Hospital. These beds have a Lothian- wide, regional and national profile and include rehabilitation services for Acquired Brain Injury, Stroke, Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, Amputee Rehabilitation, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Multiple Sclerosis.
Additionally outpatient services are available for these groups with the exception of orthopaedic patients. Large outpatient/community based programmes cover chronic pain, regional wheelchair and prosthetic services, cardiac rehabilitation and angina management and specialist Allied Healthcare Professionals (physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians and podiatrists), as well as the base for the national heart rehabilitation project the Heart Manual.
